The Senate Finance Committee is considering a proposal that focuses on using tax money from
online gambling revenue to be used toward health care reform. The proposal is to be introduced by Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) and will be enforced once the
Internet Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act (H.R. 2267) is approved.
“We applaud Senator Wyden’s proposal to collect and put to good use tens of billions in Internet gambling revenue that would otherwise be lost in the underground marketplace,” said Michael Waxman, spokesperson for the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative. “The Senate Finance Committee should approve the resolution, finally putting to an end a failed prohibition on Internet gambling that leaves Americans unprotected and unlicensed offshore operators as the only beneficiary in a thriving marketplace.”
Right now, everyone is counting on the introduction of the new online gambling regulation law that will finally legalize and regulate the online gambling industry. The current online gambling law that is currently in place forbids online gambling transactions to be processed by U.S. citizens but never really took off because financial institutions were not able to differentiate between online gambling transactions and normal ones.
The new legislation, H.R. 2267, allows online gambling transactions but in a regulated environment where consumers are protected from underage gambling, money laundering, fraud and identity theft.
When will H.R. 2267 be put in place? The legislation is currently pending and who knows how much longer the controversial legislation will take for approval since there seems to be a lot of opposition.
